FREE activities for the whole-family include:
Ongoing: Arts and crafts, fossil identifications in the Paleo Lab, exploration of specimens at booths hosted by Texas Natural Science Center scientists, and digging in the Fossil Dig Pit.
Timed Presentations:
11:00am – 1:00pm – Music Expedition.  This new family-friendly activity combines musical games and a scavenger hunt with short interactive concerts by students from UT’s Butler School of Music. Students will perform music relating to the museum’s exhibits and offer clues for the scavenger hunt.
11:00am –3:00pm – Fun Fish Facts.  See a diversity of fishes from the Gulf of Mexico and discover fun and interesting facts about each.
2:00pm – 2:40pm – Meet a Fossil Preparator.  Presented by Preparator Laura Naski, who will explain the “tools of the trade” and demonstrate how fossils are cleaned, repaired and made ready for exhibit, research and teaching.

LBJ Library Exhibits and Redesign Update

Here’s Your Timeline for the Redesign and a List of New Exhibits.
Major Redesign Project is Underway.

For the rest of this year, there will be construction on the three public exhibit floors of the Library, giving the interior a completely new look and feel.

The LBJ Library will remain open throughout the construction; however, parts of the Library will be closed at times. Because construction work can be unpredictable, please check the Library’s website,, for updates on construction.

While the redesign is underway, you will have the opportunity to enjoy several new, temporary exhibits.

Current – March 25: Etched Memory: Icons of American Photography at the Briscoe Center. This exhibit features ten iconic photographs that help define the American visual memory of the last 70 years.
(Location: lobby outside the elevators on the 4th floor.)

Current – March 25: United States Secret Service. This exhibit chronicles the history of the Secret Service and pays tribute to the heroic special agents who put their lives on the line.
(Location: Great Hall.)

February 25 – March 25: Artwork from The Lorax. To coincide with the release of a new Lorax 3D film, the Library will display ten of the original drawings made by Dr. Seuss for The Lorax book.

• Museum Store is closed for renovation.

March 2012 – December 2012
• New Museum Store opens in early April.
• Main exhibit floors will be closed.
• Oval Office exhibit will close for a few weeks in December.

December 2012
• Grand Opening as part of the celebration of what would have been Lady Bird Johnson’s 100th birthday.
